NewsApril 12, 2012 KCHS Baseball Milan @ Home... The Eagles were looking to settle the score with the Milan Wildcats. The Varsity contest got off to a crazy start as the Eagles had a tough inning early and got behind by 6. Knox battled for the next couple of innings to cut the lead in half. Trailing by 3 going into the bottom of the 6th inning the Eagles were on a roll. Before the inning was over the home team cut it to a 10-9 game. The game finished with Knox coming up a run short. It was great to see the young baseball team of the Eagles fight until the end. They finished the final inning with 3 hard hit balls that were caught by the Wildcats. If this is any indication of how Knox is gonna play the second half of the season, I can't wait to see it. April 9, 2012 KCHS Baseball Scotland County @ Home... Easter weekend finished up with the Eagles playing the defending Conference champs. The Eagles faced a tough Tigers pitcher (B. Shannon) and were only able to scratch 3 hits on the night. Knox fell to the Tigers by a score of 0-6. Knox committed 3 errors and struggled on offense with 10 strikeouts. The only hits collected were by Sophomore Donovan Edwards and Junior Jared Barnard for Knox's offense and Royce Poore took the loss on the mound. Going into the top of the 5th inning with a score of 0-2 the bats fired up for Scotland to extend the lead to 6. It was a game that the Eagles showed signs of improvement. The Tigers are a good team who did not graduate anyone last year, so we knew they would be tough coming into the Varsity contest. April 5, 2012 KCHS Baseball Schuyler County @ Schuyler... This game was our 2nd Conference game of the season and the Eagle players were looking to fair a little better than the 1st contest. The Eagles fought hard, but fell to the Rams by a score of 0-12. The Rams came out with hot bats and took an early 3-0 lead. Knox allowed 3 more runs in the next couple innings and struggled on offense because of a tremendous performance by Rams pitcher (Jordan Wheeler). The only hit was collected by Freshman Joey McCauley for Knox's offense and Royce Poore took the loss on the mound. The bats once again fired up for Schuyler in the 4th to extend the lead to 12. It was a tough loss for the Eagles, but one they will bounce back from. The Rams are a good team and their experience shined through the youth of the Eagles. April 3, 2012 KCHS Baseball Milan @ Milan... Heading to Milan, the Eagles had high hopes for a victory after playing a very tough Schuyler team. The Eagles fell to the Wildcats by a score of 3-13. The start of the Varsity contest was not a good one for Knox as they gave up 2 unearned runs in the 1st inning. Since Milan was coming off of a victory against LaPlata their confidence grew quickly. Knox continued to stack up errors totaling 6 and allowing 7 unearned runs in the game. The Eagles showed signs of life on offense in the 4th and 5th innings scoring 3 runs. Stranding 10 baserunners on offense was a major downfall for the outcome of the game for the Eagles. It was a tough night all the way around for Knox. The Wildcats fought hard and stuck with it for the victory, but when the conference game comes on 4/12/12 and the Eagles face Milan again, we will be looking forward to a different outcome. March 29, 2012 KCHS Baseball Schuyler County @ Home... This game was our 3rd game of the week and Eagle players showed earlier in the day that they were eager to play. After the baseball field at Knox was decided to be unplayable, the game was moved to Schuyler's Field. Even though we had to travel to Schuyler, it was still a home game for the Eagles. It was a crazy turn of events and the players were definitely out of their element. The Eagles fell to the Rams by a score of 0-7. The start of the Varsity contest was not a good one for Knox. Since it was the 1st game of the season for Schuyler, they came out ready to play. Knox allowed 5 unearned runs in the 1st three innings and stranded several baserunners on offense. It was a tough lesson for the Eagles, but one they will benefit them if they learn from the mistakes. The Rams are a good team and took advantage of the off balance night of the Eagles. When the conference game comes on 4/05/12 and the Eagles face the Rams again, we will be looking forward to a different outcome. March 29, 2012 KCHS Baseball Highland @ Highland... Due to rainy weather the field at Highland is too wet to play our Varsity contest this evening. With the game being canceled we will try to schedule it at a later date. The Eagles play again on Friday March 30, 2012 @ home against the Schuyler County Rams. This contest against a conference rival will start at 5pm and will be followed by a Junior Varsity game. March 28, 2012 KCHS Baseball Brashear @ Home... For the 2nd night in a row the Eagles made some noise with their bats. With the team punching out 14 hits in only 4 innings it was all down hill for the Brashear Tigers. Jared Barnard got the start on the mound and went 4 innings only allowing 1 unearned run and striking out 4. Sam Minear made his 1st Varsity appearance on the mound in the 5th and closed the door on the tigers. With a final of 13-1 in 5 innings the Knox County players showed how baseball is played in Red and Black. Some of our offensive highlights are: Will Minear went 3 for 4 with 2 stolen bases, Colton Danger, Donovan Edwards, Sam Minear, and Joey McCauley all went 2 for 3, Jared Barnard, Royce Poore, and Ryan Strange all rounded out the night with a hit as well. March 27, 2012 KCHS Baseball North Shelby @ Home... Tonight the Eagles faced their 1st conference opponent (North Shelby) defeating them 9-2 in 7 innings. Our pitching was once again 2nd to none as Royce Poore got the start for Knox and did an amazing job. Poore went 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs, and striking out 8 in his 1st win of the season and the 1st conference win for the Eagles. Offensively the Knox baseball team fired on all cylinders as they collected 13 hits that produced 9 runs. It was definitely a night for the freshmen as they had 5 of those hits and 4 RBI's. You can't take anything away from the Seniors though...as they were on base 7 out of 8 at bats and crossed the plate 4 times. Those hard nosed Juniors were an offensive threat as well going 6 of 9 on base scoring 3 times with 4 advanced bases on steals and passed balls. This is the definition of a team win when you consider the pitching from the Sophomores, and the defense behind that pitching added to the offense from the Seniors, Juniors, and Freshmen. March 24, 2012 KCHS Baseball @ TSU... Today's game was originally scheduled to be played at Truman State's baseball field. Due to weather the game was changed to Novinger's baseball field. It was a great evening for baseball. The Eagles fought hard against a tough Wildcat's pitcher (Chris Smith). Taking a 2-1 ball game into the bottom of the 6th inning Knox was battling hard. With a rocky 6th inning of defense they came up short at the end 5-1. Royce Poore got the start on the hill for the Eagles going 3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 2. Offensively Colton Danger with 2 doubles and Jared Barnard with a single and a double were the Junior class bash brothers for the evening. Barnard drove in the only run of the Varsity contest for the Eagles. There were a couple Freshmen who showed some life at the plate. Sam Minear and Joey McCauley collected their 1st Varsity hits of their careers with hopefully many more to come. Everyday I see improvement in these boys and soon we will be a force to be reckoned with! March 20, 2012 KCHS Baseball Home Opener... We opened up the season at home tonight. Mother nature held off long enough for us to get a Varsity and a Junior Varsity game in against Marion County. The Varsity game went 8 innings and the Eagles fell to the Mustangs 3-4. Donovan Edwards got the start and went 4 innings collecting a No Decision. Royce Poore followed Edwards with 4 relief innings and was strapped with the loss. Both pitchers were on their game tonight combining for 15 strikeouts and 1 walk, while allowing only 2 earned runs. Offensively the Eagles had a great night from Will Minear who went 4 for 4 with an RBI, a run scored, and 4 stolen bases. Royce Poore was 1 for 3 with a hit by pitch and a game tying triple. Donovan Edwards was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and 4 stolen bases. Colton Danger was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, 1 stolen base. Jared Barnard was 1 for 3 with a walk. The outcome of this game does not show what the Eagles are capable of. First game jitters plagued our defense early, and pressure situations challenged our offense. We will learn from our mistakes and be a better team because of tonight! March 13, 2012 KCHS Baseball Parent Meeting was a success... There was an outstanding number in attendance tonight and I appreciate everyone showing up. Those of you who could not make it tonight, I understand. We got a lot accomplished and several parents had great questions. The season starts Monday and even though I know it is a long drive I hope to see you in the stands wearing your EAGLE colors! March 11, 2012 KCHS Baseball is in full swing... 2 weeks of practice down and we have been outside 4 out of 8 practices and even had BP on the field. Not really sure how to react as this is very rare, but I am not complaining. We have 30 tons of new infield dirt to add this week and some red conditioner on its way. Hoping to get the warning track finished and the rock added to the bleacher area as well. Fixing the batting cage is something that the shop class is helping us with before our season gets into full swing. We will have a Team Dinner next Sunday evening. Then bring on the Putnam County Midgets! February 13, 2012 KCHS Baseball to Make Season Debut Monday March 19th The Knox County baseball team will make its 2012 season debut Monday (Mar. 19) when the Eagles travel to Unionville Mo., to face the Putnam County Midgets. AnnouncementsWeek of 3/26-3/30: We have a total of four games scheduled this week, so it will test the mental toughness of our Eagles. Come show your support. The 1st conference game of the season against North Shelby is shceduled at home Tuesday night the 27th at 5pm. Come watch the action as the Eagles work to collect a conference victory. The next chance to watch the Eagles on the diamond is 5pm March 22, 2012 at Monroe City. We have a team picture for the local sports reporter tomorrow (3-16) at 3:30pm on the field. All of the players need to bring their red uniforms. We will have practice immediately following. 3/14- I have so many thank you's to give out from Knox County Baseball, I don't know where to begin. I will start with thanking my family for understanding and supporting everything I do for this up and coming program. Next, thanks goes to Ryan Mason, and Ryan Strange for bringing equipment and working all night to make our field "The Best" field in the conference! Kelly Hayes also gets a big thank you for letting us use his tiller and doing everything he can to make us successful. Ron York and his crew have done an amazing job getting us the material to make this possible. Knox County School and the Athletic Boosters get a huge thank you for their support and backing. If I have missed anyone I apologize because it is hard to remember such a big group of supports. Finally, this would all be for nothing if it wasn't for the hard working baseball team I get to watch develop everyday. They are a group of fellas that keep me motivated to make this field and program the best in the state at the Class 2 level! Tuesday March 13, 2012 is our parent meeting in the Elementary Cafeteria at 6pm. 3/8- Today was a special practice for the Eagles... The baseball athletes at Knox County High School had the opportunity to practice with a professional baseball player. Christian Witt, a former Truman State baseball player was drafted in the 36th round of the MLB draft in 2011. He heads to spring training in Arizona on March 16th and before he flies out he wanted to come spend the day with the Eagles. The Eagles got to practice on the field today 3/1 for the 1st time this Spring! There are some great things going on with Knox County Baseball right now. We are in the early stages of field work, so we can have our facilities ready for spring action. Make your way out to a game this season and check out these hard working athletes. |
